Family Transition Place provides a range for services in the County of Dufferin and Town of Caledon: Emergency Shelter for women and their children, Counselling (woman abuse, sexual abuse, addictions) Transition Support - Housing and Legal, Second Stage Housing, Support Within Housing, Rural Response Outreach, Community Homeless Outreach.
Full-Time
Reporting to the Director of Transitional Programs and Housing Initiatives, the Transitional Housing Counsellor plays a pivotal role in providing support to women in the Second Stage and Third Stage Housing programs. The Transitional Housing Counsellor will be responsible for providing women with referrals and support related to housing and abuse issues, individual advocacy, and connection to community resources.
Responsibilities will include:
- Monitoring Second and Third Stage Housing properties by:
- Working with Maintenance Staff to ensure safety and security of the houses
- Coordinating occupancy, tenant and housing issues
- Staying current with the Ministry of Housing, Infrastructure and Comminities guidelines and Residential Tenancies Act
Providing services to clients / residents by:
- Coordinating referrals, assessments, admissions, and orientation
- Assisting women to identify obtainable personal goals and life skills development
- Providing individual and group intervention and support
- Encouraging positive, supportive relationships among residents and providing conflict resolution when needed.
- Participating in case management, consultation, and meetings

Salary Type: per hourSalary: $52,047 - $61,040Job Requirements:Qualifications and Core Competencies
- Post-Secondary Education in the Social Service field or equivalent experience and specialized training
- Registered or eligible for registration with OCSWSSW
- Knowledge of violence against women and children and, homelessness issues including the intersection with mental health and addictions
- Communication and report writing skills
- Organizational skills and the ability to prioritize
- Interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to calmly assess security and risk situations and respond appropriately following established policies and procedures
- Familiarity with the Residential Tenancies Act
- Must be able to utilize listening skills, empathy and interpersonal skills when dealing with clients
- Maintain a current understanding of feminist philosophy
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries
- Works from an ARAO / intersectionality lens
- Police Vulnerable Sector Check
Hours of Work: Monday thru Friday with some weekend and evening hours as required.
