Did you know 1 in 8 households in Canada experience hunger? Would it shock you to learn that 1 in 3 of those helped by food banks are children? *
Educate: Talk to your family; your children, parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins, anyone with a friendly ear. Have an open conversation about hunger and what it means as a whole and to you. Look for resources in your community and online to learn more. (Check out the Exchange where CCS’ Food Support Program is available.)
Advocate: You can be the voice of action in your community for those in need. Learn the facts about hunger and take a stand – together we can help ensure everyone has nutritious food to eat.
How you advocate depends on you – writing a letter to a person in government or using your social media are two of many options you could use.
Volunteer: Right here in Caledon we have CCS’ Food Support program at the Exchange where last year we had 3,364 unique visits to our pantry. You can join our amazing team of volunteers who help ensure necessities are there for our neighbours in need, whether its sorting food, organizing or stocking the pantry or leading a food and nutrition workshop.
Donate: Donations are always welcome and much appreciated. Items can be dropped off at 55 Healey Rd. Bolton, Monday to Friday, 9:00 am – 4:30 pm. You can add a few items to your next grocery list, host a food drive, alone, with neighbours, or with a community you belong to. Harvesting extra produce from your garden or farm is yet another way to ensure fresh, nutritious food to neighbours in need..
